Data We Collect

a) Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name via Firebase Authentication (email/password or Google Sign-In). We use this to identify you and manage your account.

b) User-Generated Content

Your journal entries, notes, mood data, and responses to reflection questions are stored in Google Cloud Firestore. This content is created by you and is essential to providing the App's core journaling and reflection features.

c) Subscription & Purchase Data

If you subscribe to Muse Otter Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We receive a purchase token and subscription status but never receive or store your payment card details. Purchase validation is handled by RevenueCat.

d) AI-Processed Data

To provide AI-powered insights (weekly reviews, reflection questions, memory recaps), portions of your journal entries are sent to third-party AI services (OpenAI API). This data is used solely to generate your personal insights and is not used to train AI models, in accordance with OpenAI's API data usage policy.

e) Usage & Analytics Data

We collect anonymous usage data (screens visited, features used, crash reports) through Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics. This data helps us improve app stability and user experience. It is not linked to your identity.

f) Device Information

We may collect device type, operating system version, and app version for diagnostics and compatibility purposes.

How We Use Your Data

• Provide the service: Store and display your journal entries, generate AI-powered reflections and weekly reviews.
• Account management: Authenticate your identity and manage your subscription status.
• Improve the App: Analyze anonymous usage patterns and fix crashes.
• Communications: Send important service updates (e.g., security alerts, policy changes). We do not send marketing emails.

Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Google Cloud Platform (Firebase) servers located in the European Union. We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data (journal entries, profile information, and AI-generated content) will be permanently deleted within 30 days. Anonymous analytics data may be retained for up to 14 months.

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
• Rectification: Update or correct your personal data directly in the App or by contacting us.
• Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data from within the App settings or by emailing us.
• Portability: Request your data in a structured, commonly used format.
• Restriction: Request that we limit processing of your personal data.
• Objection: Object to processing of your personal data for specific purposes.
• Withdraw consent: Withdraw your consent at any time where we rely on consent as a legal basis.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We only share data with the third-party services listed above, strictly to provide the App's functionality. We may disclose your data if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

Children's Privacy

Muse Otter is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us.

Tracking & Advertising

Muse Otter does not display advertisements and does not use tracking technologies for advertising purposes. We do not share your data with advertising networks or data brokers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
